Guinness Inaugurates Agric Scheme to Support Local Content
Guinness Nigeria Plc, a subsidiary of Diageo Plc of the United Kingdom has inaugurated an agriculture scheme to support the Nigerian Government’s efforts to diversify the Nigerian economy as well as deepen the local content policy of government.
According to the firm, the scheme, which it tagged, ‘Grow with Nigeria,’ will support the growth of Nigeria’s agricultural value chain, as well as that of smallholder farmers across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the scheme in Abuja recently, the Managing Director, Guinness Nigeria, Baker Magunda, said, “We are here today to further demonstrate our commitment to the Federal Government‘s policy on diversification and local content, the growth of the agricultural value chain and that of smallholder farmers who form an integral part of our business.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, commended Guinness on the initiative. He said “I am very proud of Guinness Nigeria and I urge other manufacturers to do same.”
Stanbic IBTC, the financial partner of the initiative, reassured farmers of its commitment to provide financial solutions that would help them and their businesses grow through its agriculture desk. Stanbic IBTC said it had injected over N50 billion into Nigeria’s agricultural sector and this was one of the largest investments recorded in the sector so far.
