Enterprise Television – Oduoza Advises Youths on Entrepreneurial Development
The Chairman, NOVA Merchant Bank Limited, Mr. Phillips Oduoza, has called on Nigerian youths to actively participate in agriculture and other sectors of the economy.
Oduoza, made this statement at the 2017/2018 Babcock University Convocation Lecture in Ogun State.
He, however, challenged the youths to take advantage of available opportunities in the country, especially in agriculture, financial technology, arts and entertainment.
According to him, many opportunities had been created across the agriculture value chain for aspiring entrepreneurs as a result of government’s focus on the diversification of the nation’s economy.
He explained that the agricultural sector was broad, covering inputs, farming, storage, processing, manufacturing and transportation, with the potential to create jobs in the country.
“The tech start-up ecosystem in Nigeria is also awash with opportunities for young entrepreneurs to create innovative solutions that will address many of the structural issues facing the country. Emerging areas such as financial technology, the sharing economy, and Artificial Intelligence, among others, present opportunities to start innovative businesses,” Oduoza said.
He stated that in order to start and build successful businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners should be courageous and resilient, adding that those were the two necessary conditions for overcoming obstacles, which he described as critical to business growth and success.
However, the Vice Chancellor, Babcock University, Prof. Adeola Tayo, described Oduoza as a loyal friend of the institution and acknowledged his efforts in forging a good relationship between the university and his former institution.
“There is no better person to speak at this event than Mr. Oduoza, who, having had a successful tenure as the chief executive officer of one of Africa’s largest financial institutions, United Bank for Africa, midwifed the birth of a new merchant bank, which has achieved many feats in its first year of operation,” he said.
